There has been a lot of talk amongst fans of Smallville about Michael not returning to the series. This will always be a place of support and love to Michael and his work, I hope the 'fans' who bash him will think of how their words have impact. Everyone has a right to their opinion and I am a big advocate for freedom of opinion however whatever his decision this site will be nothing but supportive to Michael Rosenbaum and not to Smallville.

Michael has written a letter to fans of Smallville:

Dear Smallville Fans,

Well, it's been seven wonderful years.  Your support is what has made Smallville so successful, and I appreciate you all more than you know.

That being said, it is time for me to start the next chapter of my life and career.  I hope that I gave you some enjoyment over the years, and that you found my portrayal of Lex Luthor to be satisfying.  I am truly grateful, as Smallville fans are the best fans out there.  I sincerely hope that you will continue to follow my career through my hair growth period and beyond.

I'm very excited about what the future holds, but certainly, Smallville will always be a part of me.  I will definitely miss the greatest crew in the world, and the wonderful cast that has been like a family to me.

Thank you Al and Miles for creating the show.  Thank you writers, producers, directors and editors. Thanks Tollin, Robbins and Davola for being there for the pilot. Thank you Peter Roth for employing me for ten years.  Lisa Lewis, I miss you already.  John Glover, thanks for helping me feel more comfortable touching other actors, while acting. Bizarre, but helpful.

Mostly, I want to thank Greg Beeman for directing the "Oh Sherry" video, by Steve Perry, back in the 80's.

Thanks crew. Thanks fans. Thanks Smallville.

I love you all,

Michael Rosenbaum

I have to be honest and say that this is not strictly 'Michael news' but when Tasabian wrote about the disgusting way Michael is being spoken about on the IMDB message boards I had to add this post to the site. This is someone who is standing up for Michael and as a fan of this wonderful actor I can only try to spread the word about why Michael has made the decisions he has:

Bottom line, you don't know Michael. You don't know what he's like as a person, you don't know what his true feelings are towards Smallville, and whether or not he has ever been willing to return. You don't know the circumstances behind his apparent final decision to finally say no to coming back.

You posts about him in this thread have been nothing short of insulting.

He gave his all to the show for 7 years, and had to put up with a lot more crap than the rest of the cast. The only person who really had a tougher work schedule for most of the series run was Tom.

He was originally contracted for 7 years, which meant even if he wanted to leave the show earlier, it wasn't an option. When his contract was wrapping up, he entered negotiations with the network to come back. He entered them in good faith, but unfortunately an agreement couldn't be reached, so Michael moved on. The writers and producers had ample time to prepare for Lex's departure, but I think they were holding onto th belief that he'd be back, and they painted themselves into a corner.

He has spent the last two years recovering from major lower back surgery (which was actually to fix a problem that had already been worked on, but was buggered up from work he had to do in the show in season 7), as well as developing his own projects. He's got the pilot he's shooting for SyFy this year, which is a show he created, as well as other film and television projects he's been working on.

In that time, Smallville has approached him to return as Lex a few times. Again, Michael was open to the idea, but an agreement couldn't be reached that was mutually beneficial to both parties. Shaving his head is not an option for him, as it takes too long to grow out, and limits his opportunities as an actor until it's grown back.

Do we hope that an agreement can be reached to bring Michael back in season 10? Absolutely! I know everyone involved with the show are very fond of Michael, and would love to see him back. But, it has to be right for him too.

At the end of the day, the network is just as much, if not more so responsibe for Michael not having returned to Smallville.

I have some news which is really cool if not completely 'Michael news' I urge you to participate and support Smallville

It's time to celebrate the man who has made Smallville what it is! He has brought Clark Kent to life for 9 seasons and almost 200 episodes. He's directed several amazing episodes himself. And this season he has brought Clark even closer to his heroic role as Superman as well as taken on the mantel of Executive Producer. In short, Tom Welling Is Superman.

How are we celebrating? We're going to trend the hashtag #TomWellingIsSuperman this Friday, May 14th at 6pm EST before the season 9 finale "Salvation"!

28th April 2010 ~
I came across a post on livejournal by lavendergaia about Michael attending a party to celebrate the release of Jason Mann’s CD:

“Supernatural's Jensen Ackles, One Tree Hill's Danneel Harris, and Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum turned up to the bar and lounge to cheer on Manns, as well as his opening acts, which included Jesse Cole and Life of Riley. Manns has had his music featured in CW shows like Supernatural in the past and hopes to be placed on more programs soon.”

“Jason finished up the evening, playing with the band for a change and having everyone on their feet and singing along. Oddly, this included Michael Rosenbaum, who kept walking by the stage singing Jason’s praises. Loudly.”

“Michael Rosenbaum sauntered in and walked up to the stage to wave hello before disappearing into the “crowd”. Totally didn’t recognize him until later. He was lookin’ good. Retirement has served him well. While he may (or may not) be a celebrity dick, I still find him endlessly amusing. I observed his flirting style with two women at the bar later, which seemed to consist of singing loudly off-key and waving his arms in the air like he just don’t care. Was a band playing at the time? No. Was he singing along to the music in the background? No. It was entirely random... Michael Rosenbaum summed it up nicely for us all by calling Jensen a "pussy" for failing to take the stage. I knew there was a reason I liked you, Rosenbaum.”

Brian Peterson, exectutive producer of Smallville, has stated to E! Online that he will keep urging Michael to return to the show "We have never given up hope, but at this point that's all it is," he said. "We have a great relationship with Michael, it just hasn't happened yet." He added: "I would never give up hope until the final second."

As tweeted by Michael yesterday @mrosenbaum711 there is a new show on the horizon; if you are on twitter let him know you support him! The project is based on his own experiences and follows two friends who were former actors on a science fiction show that has since developed a cult following, who have hit rock bottom and must work together to get their lives back on track.

I have 2 important pieces of news today woot!

Juliet Landau has created an incredible film about the creative process of Gary Oldman but has also taken the opportunity to interview actors about their creative process and Michael is one of those interviewed. She will be uploading the film to you tube soon I am sure but until then this is what the film is about:

“Gary Oldman directed a music video for the Jewish Hip Hop band Chutzpah. The video was shot on cell phones. What started out solely as a behind the scenes making of, turned into a film about Garys creative process. Much of the film is told from Garys POV as he operates one of the cell-cams. We are inside his brain, if you will, seeing the genesis of his ideas and then his precision in carrying them out. Watching Gary work in this way truly celebrates the spirit of Independent, no-budget filmmaking, where innovation and talent reign. Ultimately achieving a seamless creative flow, his playful, childlike freedom of expression and exploration take flight.”

For more information and to see the film please go to:

News on whether Michael will return to Smallville for season 10 comes from the Superman homepage

“The Superman Homepage received word that Brian Doherty, who was just this month promoted to svp, national sales, at The CW has revealed that the execs at The CW are excited about a 10th season for "Smallville", wanting to really "go out with a bang".

The word is that they're attempting to close a deal with Michael Rosenbaum to return as Lex Luthor, wanting to sign him up for at least 9 or 10 episodes .Apparently an announcement will be made one way or the other very soon.

Update: EW's "Ausiello Files" has this update on a possible 10th season...” Question: Crazed fans like myself desperately need an update on Smallville's renewal. How's it looking? Any idea what the hold-up is? Ausiello: It's looking really, really good. And the hold-up is due to boring stuff like contracts and money.”
