save breaking in
What exactly has been going on with Breaking In has been a been a bit murky. FOX cancelled the comedy series in May, only for there to be some speculation it could be revived – which seemed to be more likely when it was recently revealed that the option on the cast had been extended through November 15th, giving FOX a few more months to decide if they wanted new episodes or not.
During a Q&A at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour today, I asked FOX’s president, Kevin Reilly, about Breaking In and its current status. Reilly remarked that FOX hopes to have a comedy block made up of four live-action series in the spring. The network has Raising Hope returning this fall, along with new comedies New Girl and I Hate My Teenage Daughter. Reilly also noted they were about to begin production on a second version of the pilot for Little in Common, from Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars, Party Down), which will star Kevin Hart and Rob Corddry.
“I like Breaking In. We all like Breaking In,” said Reilly, adding, “Part of the challenge we had this year was a high class problem. There are shows that we unfortunately had to cut this year that would have made the cut on other networks with bigger challenges. We had to make a judgement call. Breaking In fell a little bit in that camp, but ultimately, we had a very passionate group of producers and actors who wanted to keep it going.”
Reilly went on to say, “I think as part of that four comedy block, [Breaking In] still has a shot. They’ve agreed to extend an option. So we’ve kept it alive. And you know what, stranger things have happened. We’ve not ordered anything right now, but who knows… Family Guy was cancelled once. Seinfeld started with four episodes. You never know. So we’re going to revisit what makes up that four comedy block a little later in the fall and then we’ll officially look at Breaking In.”
This sounds to me to mean that if Raising Hope, New Girl and I Hate My Teenage Daughter were all continuing into the spring, and Little in Common were picked up, Breaking In probably wouldn’t be back, as those four shows could make up a two-hour block. But if any of those fall comedies failed and/or if Little in Common is passed on, well then, the gang at Contra Security might have a chance.
Not mentioned by Reilly was Family Album, the Mike O’Malley project which shot a pilot this spring that was passed on. There had been word that too would be re-tooled and reshot, but Reilly not mentioning it may mean that project is now dead… or he forgot about it!
OK now before I say another word I have to state that there has been no official word from anyone associated with Breaking in or with Fox….
However the other day I saw a link on the SaveBreakingIn facebook page its a link to an official Fox website with information about new listings for the network. If you scroll to the bottom of this page foc.com/showlistings Breaking in is there as a ‘Returning favourite’!
I have tried to wait for official word but I am bursting with excitement at the thought that Fox may well have changed their minds about cancelling this incredible show! Maybe just maybe we will get more seasons of Dutch and the gang keep everything crossed and keep signing those petitions, making your videos, and tweeting with #SaveBreakingIn so they know we want this show to not be cancelled! As soon as we have official word I will of course post it here.
Christian Slater has had a lot of issues with getting a descent television show aired, but finally he did! Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to FOX Networks standards and was canceled Spring 2011. Only last one season and roughly seven episodes, “Breaking In” a very clever and hilarious sitcom and when it was canceled people went crazy. Michael Rosenbaum, of Smallville fame, immediately jumped on the Social Network site Twitter to campaign along with thousands of fans to bring back “Breaking In”. FOX heard and gave it a second chance by moving nights from Wednesday, after American Idol, to Tuesday during it’s comedy block. Unfortunately, it didn’t perform up to it’s standards again and it’s believed that FOX will not be bringing it back. Fortunately though, it is a widely supported show and is being “shopped” around, meaning being pitched to other television networks, so there is a likely chance that it could indeed come back in the Fall of 2011!
“Breaking In” stars Christian Slater as a boss at a security firm called Contra. This show was based on the various jobs that him and his team had to do for it’s clients. One of the jobs they had to do was guarding a copy of “The Goonies 2” during a Comic-Con convention. This was one of the funniest episodes of a television show I have seen in awhile with “The Whitest Kids U’Know” Trevor Moore’s character dressed up in an “Avatar” costume saying, “I met a Smurf at Comic-Con, and I Smurf’d the Smurf out of her!”. Possibly one of the funniest quotes from a show I have heard in quite a long time! The series also focused on one of the main characters, Bret Harrison’s Cameron, feelings for another co-worker, Odette Annable’s Mel. But, the funniest person on this show goes to Alphonso McAuley playing the character “Cash”. He had so many great moments and even more hilarious one-liners!
In the end, it is sad that “Breaking In” is over (for now). Hopefully, another network will see it’s potential and pick this show up. G4 stands out because of the nature of the television show, but for now we only have seven episodes of this hilarious sitcom to watch. If you haven’t taken time to watch this, I highly suggest you go on FOX’s website and search for it because you will be impressed!

OK so here is the deal great TV shows are being cancelled left and right and we have to stand up to be counted! We have a chance to do that tonight with Breaking in a really funny show and Michael just shines in it now Fox are going to give us a second series if the ratings are good for the finale. But here is the important thing to know they have moved it from wednesday to tonight it is on at 9:30 after Glee and Raising hope. So please don’t record it or download it if you are in the US watch it and lets show Fox that we want this show to grow!
We want more Cam pining after Mel, more Dutch being the best boyfriend ever, more pranks, more pop culture references, and more awsome guest stars! So watch, tell everyone you know to watch and lets save this show!
If that doesn’t persuade you maybe this brilliant video my friend made will:
In another sign that there is hope for the show, Fox has moved its season finale next week from its post-American Idol Wednesday 9:30 PM slot to Tuesday 9:30 PM where it will air after Raising Hope. Because it has only aired after Idol, the network wants to test Breaking In as part of its comedy block. Good performance there will solidify the rookie’s chances to come back from the dead for a second time.
OK now we need to pull together to save this incredible show so go to facebook and twitter and lets show Fox that the fans want this show and this is something that will count no matter what country you are in! This is an incredible show with so much potential we cannot let them cancel it without a fight! So go to Save Breaking in on Facebook and Twitter click like, and #SaveBreakingIn to let Fox know we want this show to stay!
